I did this using Ton's mechanism explained on his puzzle page. Thanks Ton! The only difference is that I used modeling clay and super glue instead of epoxie, which makes the pieces very fragile (and soft ^^;). Sorry about the quality of these pics. The light was pretty bad, I guess. m(_ _)m
| The 2x2x2 base with rails.... I had to dig up my dremel, which uses battery so I had stop every 30 min of making rails. | |
| Now on to the additional top and bottom layer pieces.... This is piece before... | |
| ...Piece being made... | |
| ...and piece after. =D | |
| Waiting for the clay and super glue to dry. ^^; Um I hope it won't break. | |
| Putting together the pieces.... | |
| Half way there. Yes, the top layer moves OK. Not great, but OK. =D | |
| Putting in that last piece.... oh gosh I'm scared it's gonna break. *shudder* | |
| First completed 2x2x4. Comparison with the regular cube. | |
| I tried to turn the white added-on face, and the whole layer broke! ah! Took me 30 more min to fix this.... | |
| Hmm... ok, that _looks_ pretty nice. It just doesn't turn so good. | |
| Mixed up within (L2R2F2B2UuDd) group... it doesn't change the shape, that's what it means. =D | |
| Now messed up orientation also. I takes me about 3 min to solve it, performing each move with great care. *sweat* | |
| And here's a nice 4-sided checker pattern. |
I hope you enjoyed that. I really recommend you all to try this once you buy an Eastsheen and have Rubik's 2x2x2's to spare. Ton's page is really great! Just don't use clay, buy epoxie, ok? Awesome... =D
